Gloria Estefan Biography
Gloria Estefan (birth name Gloria Maria Milagrosa Fajardo; born September 1, 1957 in Havana, Cuba) is a Latin rock-pop star, one of a number of them to achieve mainstream success in North America.

Known far and wide as the “Queen of Latin Pop,” Gloria Estefan is one of the most recognized artists in the world. Billions have heard her, millions have seen her perform and with over 70 million of her albums sold worldwide, she is the single most successful crossover performer in Latin music history. A five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, actress, songwriter, philanthropist and humanitarian, this superstar’s career is paved in platinum.

Cuban-born Estefan was raised in Miami and was a member of Miami Sound Machine. They soon gained a large fanbase and released an LP in 1979. It was the first all-Spanish album from CBS International. In 1985, Miami Sound Machine began recording in English with Primitive Love in 1985. "Conga", "Bad Boy" and "Words Get in the Way" were crossover hits, and the next LP, 1988's Let It Loose was multi-platinum.

While touring in support of it, Estefan was in a vehicle accident and injured her spine. She was recovering for over a year, but then returned to the charts with a concept album, Into the Light in 1991. 1993's Mi Tierra was a Spanish-language album and won a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album.Destiny released in 1996 featured "Reach," named the official theme of the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics. Estefan appeared in a movie, Music of the Heart(1999) and dueted with 'N Sync on the title track. Her next album, 2000's Alma Caribeña won the first Latin Grammy for Best Music Video for "No Me Dejes de Querer". In 2003, Estefan released Unwrapped, her first English record in five years. The next year, 2004 Estefan began her first tour in eight years "Live & Rewrapped Tour" in McAllen, TX on July 30 and played in 28 cities, ending in Estefan’s hometown Miami, Florida on September 24.

Estefan attended the University of Miami and is married to Emilio (born March 4, 1953). They have two children: Nayib (born September 2, 1980) and Emily (born December 5, 1994).
